A very good friend gave me 6 pieces of a grocery store Christmas display and suggested that it would make a great building project. What can I say? The price was right...

I nestled it in near the fence and next to my stained glass studio. It will be used as a wood drying rack when it is finished as I have a lot of high quality hardwood that needs a good home. Most of it is in my garage and is preventing me from getting my tools set up properly. Kind of a Catch-22 - I have lots of great wood but it is taking up the space I need to actually make use of it...

Got the back wall in and both side walls as well. As you can see, the side walls extend only half the width of the building. This will allow me to put longer boards in from the ends (up to 9 feet long) and keeps the front half of the building open for the storage of smaller pieces of hardwood.

I put in the center wall, sheeted the whole building and put in the racks in the back section. Used up a lot of the junk laying in the yard for the sheeting so it does sort of resemble a patchwork quilt but since it is going to be covered with real siding eventually, it is OK! It really stiffened up the structure a bunch (It was a little iffy climbing around on the roof last week when I did the ridge...)

As you can see here, I have covered the exterior with tarpaper to keep rain out. I have also put some of my wood up in the rack to try it out. The front and sides are going to be covered with weighted tarps which will keep the rain out but allow the building to breathe, allowing the wood to dry better.
